Jay-Z: On to the Next One

In the age of redundant music videos, with budgets reduced to an artist in front of a green screen, with random shots of their ill-dressed entourage excited to be in the video, Jay-Z takes advantage of an infinite budget to bring us “art.” Shot by Sam Brown, “On to the Next One” features a montage of fluid moving black and white scenes, that don’t really seem to tie together, other than them being monochromatic, shot in slo-mo, with lots of product placement. There’s no denying that the individual scenes, are shot beautifully. The end result: a cool looking video, for a pretty cool song. ” High-concept art” has always gone over my head, so I guess this is mission accomplished for Jiggaman.
